Even though it’s falsely promoted, Panamanians don’t speak a whole lot of English. But they’d like you to think they do.
Most have a phrase or two that they like to use on foreigners, but get past that first artificial layer and you’re bound to get a blank stare. Ask them where they learned English and most proficient Panamanians will say “TV” or “movies” and to support the rouse, Panamanians like to wear shirts with English sayings and/or interject bits of English into their everyday conversations such as “un fokot” (which is their version of “a fuck up” or a small disaster) and “picksa” (their version of “pizza”).
The best shirt I ever saw her was on an 8 year old girl: “I’m a hot piece of ass”. I can only hope the parents had no clue what it said!
My fellow Panamanians: why the HELL do you HAVE to write in English on Facebook. Some of you who do it speak English fine. Others don’t speak any English. My favorite wall post from a friend who doesn’t really speak any English: “Stroking juju crystal balls to get my rythm back and all….stars aline your movement!….scary television on emerican motels…”
WTF?
jajaja the facebook thing is sooooo true. its usually the ones who don’t speak english that put up the english statuses. they always like to say “thanks god” whats up wit dat?!
pizza is not an english word, it’s an italian word that comes from a german one.
It would be a good idea for Panamanians to learn English because it is the language most commonly used in business, technology, and science all over the world.
Panama is growing and developing so quickly, in a good way.
Speaking English as a second language would be good for Panama’s future and create more opportunities in the world for young Panamanians.
some of us do speak English im actually trying to learn Japanese u know why? cause i wanna go to Japan and i don’t fucking expect that ppl there know English! learn some fucking Spanish before u get ur ass in a Latin America country
IJS!
Dear IJS, I don’t know if you were offended by my message or something else. But in case it was my message you were offended by, all I can say is I agree with you and want to learn some Spanish before moving to Panama.
But please note that I said it would be good for Panama’s future if English was the “SECOND” language for Panamanians.
Like it or not, English is the #1 language for business, politics, science, technology, aviation, engineering, medicine, and economics around the world.
As for Japan, I taught English there as a second language. You will find that very few Japanese want to learn Spanish as a second language. They want to learn English. They are just being realistic about the way things are.
You’re an idiot.
why is there a Canadian here anyway. exit left please., y llevate tus opiniones contigo webao
