Panamanians spend a lot of time taking pictures of things like the Decameron, dogs, concerts at Figali, Roberto Duran…etc. But far and away, their most favorite photo target is themselves. Panamanians can be anywhere when taking photos of themselves, but their favorite location is their bedroom/bathroom where hours (if not days) are consumed until the perfect photo is achieved.
One favorite method of Panamanians taking their own picture is in the mirror, generally with a sexy outfit on (for Panamanian girls) or with no shirt (for Panamanian guys). Note: the rear view mirror of a car is also a Panamanian favorite. The other technique is mostly for Panamanian women; it is done simply by outstretching the arm and aiming back down in order to emphasize their cleavage. If, in some cases, a Panamanian is taking their own picture with an automatic camera timer, then it is obligatory that they pose either with hand on hip or in a hallway.
When it comes to the actual pictures, more acceptable surroundings include: in the ocean surf, standing next to a limousine, lying in bed, with little children, or doing anything in Casco Viejo. Often taken with an expensive cell phone, if the perfect angle isn’t achieved, the photo is erased immediately. But once perfect, several versions will be taken (for Facebook purposes).

So hilarious and so true. My personal favorite is the “here, let me take about 20 profile pictures of myself using my computer’s camera and then publish all of them on facebook.” The word vain comes to mind, but then again so does weird and hilarious.
