There is perhaps no cultural item more encompassing of ‘things Panamanians like’ than Facebook. While the same could probably be said of any country in the world at the moment, what makes Panama’s Facebook obsession so distinct, is that it transforms what was already a small social scene into something microscopic in which everybody is friends with Jay Matos.
Beforehand, Panamanians used services such as MySpace and MSN and Hi5 to network with each other but those have since been eclipsed by Facebook. Here are several helpful hints if you are looking to integrate yourself into Panamanian Facebook: list Soda Stereo, Senor Loop, or Cage9 as one of your favorite bands, post a reference to the new discount voucher website Oferta Simple that somehow sells both nothing and everything you will ever need, list El Cartel de Los Sapos as your favorite TV show, and for sure have several profile pictures taken of yourself.
Some reasons Panamanians like Facebookeando so much is because it offers the opportunity to give status updates in English (whether understood or not) and it is a way to make public their various last names. It is a place to share news about Panamanians outside of Panama or express that they are taking a stand against something (such as the big TV on Avenida Balboa). But mostly, Facebook it is best for posting photos of Coronado, Casco Viejo, VIP at Figali, the Decameron, small dogs…etc. If you are looking to befriend Panamanians beyond the realm of Facebook, simply partake in any of these activities then mass tag some popular Panamanians like Maru Galvez or Gabo in your photos. This is a surefire way to get the message out.
Under things that panamanians don’t like…. the “ñ” But I do dig the current deal on OfertaSimple.com. A bottle of tequila for the price of a single drink at relic? Incredible?!
LOL. “Oferta Simple that somehow sells both everything and nothing you will ever need.”
Who you think you are to complain about Panama culture. I am Panamanian and don do any of those things on facebook. Jus stuuupid. Go back to you country and leaf us alone!
Sweetie, he’s not complaining. He’s MAKING FUN. Here’s a nickel, go get yourself a clue.
Oie revulu , 2 preguntas :

No se por que, pero me caes mal. Solo te lo queria decir. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang! Chau!
Diablo: These gringos have brought so much crime to Panama, it is not funny.
They are even killing each other off for properties. LOL
When you are not used to anything.LOL
In the States more likely they would be living in some trailer park ,committing incestuous acts ,killing each other or snorting meth.
Panamanian authorities just arrested a couple (husband and wife who had fled to Costa Rica) for a series of murders againts Americans .
One middle aged gringa along with a Colombian man murdered another gringa over a condominium in El Cangrejo.
Some of the elements who are retiring or moving to Panama are suspicious . I would not be surprised if the FBI is not looking for some of them.
They have the nerve to find faults with those who have given them residence in Paradise. Son unos malnacidos.
BLAH BLAH BLAH… zero insight here Panameniac.
Facebook is the same shit all over the world. Panama is a small country, you know that!
what a crappy post.
I love America and Americans, but I realy dislike this Shit and find it not funny. I have no idea who is Jay whatever… a lot of us speak English as we do Spanish, since a lot have dual citizenship, US residency, or simply a lot of friends in and out of Panama that will understand a message in English, so that the ones that speak no Spanish would understand. I never used those other social networks before Facebook, which is today a worldclass marketing tool. We list Soda Stereo because we love Cerati. I don’t have Oferta Simple on my likes, but if a lot of people have it, it’s cause we like to support our own entrepenuers, and I wish them good luck with their business venture! I hate soap opera, but not a shy number of Americans also love their share of those, in the millions. We are proud of having a place like Coronado, Casco Viejo, Decameron, but lots of other premium tourist sites as well. As well as the Big Stars events and concerts in our country eventhough small, thanks to the efforts of our very own ShowPro and alike. Posting this thing about Maru is low, she is such a sweet person and because of that she has a lot of friends that love her, not just trying to get some attention. Neither myself nor most of her friends have never ever tagged her on a photo in facebook. Hopefully, you were just trying to be funny.
jajajajja la botaste con esta!….esta si me dio risa…buena! disk maru galvez..jajaja
fanaticos, llorones y acomplejados es lo que hay aqui… un vacilon y mira como reaccionan
Nowadays if you are not on Facebook you are not a “FRIEND”. Facebook is indeed one of the many North American inventions that Panamanians like a lot.
